Circus Streets: A free & pay-what-you-feel Outdoor Circus Festival in Bristol City Centre

This September 19-20 we are joining forces with outdoor arts and street theatre legends Tit for Tat to present Circus Streets – a mini festival exploring new ways of celebrating circus and developing Bristol’s outdoor arts culture. Showcasing Bristol and South West artists, this free and pay what you feel weekend programme will bring busking street shows, aerial performances, film screenings and an ensemble tight-wire show to Bristol city centre, with activity running from 11:30-6:30pm each day.

In the Galleries Shopping Centre, in Bristol city centre, between the escalators, the pop up arcade and Boswell’s cafe – you will find Mish Weaver’s Waiting Song, an aerial performance about hope, in which two trapeze artists suspended in mid-air engage in melodic conversation about the future.

In Broadmead High Street and Castle Park, track down our busking street performance programme, featuring both emerging artists and seasoned performers returning from the street pitches of Edinburgh Fringe. A feast of circle shows, acrobatics, juggling, physical comedy and audience interaction curated by Tit for Tat, the unusual juggling company that makes the ordinary extraordinary. Show your appreciation directly to the artists by scanning QR codes or putting some cash in the hat. Full line up and running times to be published this Friday.

As golden hour approaches, wrap up the day with Elevate Her – a joyous celebration of feminine camaraderie played out on 3 tightwires stretching across the garden at Trinity Centre. Weaving feats of bravery and balance with music and spoken word, the 6 strong cast share stories of risk, resilience, challenge and friendship on and off the wire, showcasing defiance, elegance and laughter along the way.

All events and times are listed on the main page of the website. Contact hospitality@bristolcircuscity.com if you would like to discuss your visit or accessibility. Our general access information can also be found here.

Circus Streets is part of Circus City’s ongoing work to champion contemporary circus in Bristol. The weekend offers free and pay-what-you-feel performances from Bristol and South West artists, creating opportunities to experience circus in city centre public spaces and enabling us to explore what a regular outdoor arts festival for Bristol could look like together. What are your dreams for outdoor arts and performance in Bristol? Come share them with us or email Nicole@bristolcircuscity.com

We can’t wait to see you there.
