A person wearing a white shirt and black dungarees appears to be in two halves in an abandoned office room. The torso is horizontally disappearing into a mirror in the fore front of the image. The legs are standing vertically in the background with a mirror as the body, the mirror is reflecting the torso. The torso is holding an object on fire and a pack of cards spread in a fan.

A Show of Hands by Tom Cassani

A Show of Hands is a short intimate solo show investigating Cassani’s relationship with his hands and the thinking that happens with and through them. A Show of Hands explores the poetics of a working relationship with playing cards, silver dollars, and palm reading through new text and old actions. A Show of Hands presents a spectrum of magic ranging from card cheating demonstrations to mind-reading-like predictions.

“Often the eerie silence, combined with Cassani’s deliberately perfunctory performance, made the show uncomfortable viewing, and yet it was impossible to look away…”

What we love about A Show of Hands:

An engaging, poetic and insightful performance from Contemporary performance maker sideshow-magician Tom Cassani. It has humour, impressive skill and a great soundtrack. You’ll want to watch Tom’s hands like a hawk and you still won’t believe your eyes.
