A photo of a woman outside in a paved area. She is doing a version of the splits but one of her legs is about head height on a pillar and her other on the floor, her torso is arching backwards and her head is nearly touching the floor behind her.

Explore Physicality: Contortion with Marina Cherry

This workshop is a guide on movement as a tool for intentional creativity.

The focus is on practical mobility: working on points of contact with the floor both actively and passively. After growing awareness, we’ll explore improvisations and puzzles, and basic soft floor acrobatics. These elements are all about coordination, rather than virtuosity. I want to challenge people to take the risk of exploring their physicality as far as they can, rather in their flexibility than in the intensity of their movement. The aim of the workshop is to share the base of my own experience as a performer and give different guidelines and suggestions to the participants of when and how to use these principles of transformation and creation.

Key focus: finding flexibility and release in movements, in contrast with dynamism.

Requirements: You will preferably have some basic level in flexibility. Please bring a yoga mat.
