Exciting projects from Circus City 2021 festival programme contributors

Spring sees us dreaming up ideas for our next festival and working with Circus Change-Up to imagine ways of making the UK circus sector stronger and more vibrant than ever before.

Following on from Circus City 2021, we wanted to share some exceptional films from artists and companies who featured in the festival programme.

We hope you enjoy them – don’t hang around as some of them are only available for a limited time!

Seasons Digital by Upswing

Created by Upswing, Seasons Digital is a special series of audio and video stories that brings together Circus and Nature.

Available to download or stream the project offers activities to encourage children (and adults) to connect with the simple magic in the environment around them. Watch the video above, one of our favourites from the collection. Explore the rest of the package via the link below, including three exciting audio stories to explore at home or in your fave green space.

Period Drama: A Short Circus Film by Olga Kaleta & Holly Black

Created as a research film during the development of Olga’s debut solo show Period Drama, this inspired short immerses us in one woman’s experience of menstruation and anxiety disorder, via slasher flicks, aerial rope and the life of a caterpillar.

It’s available exclusively through this link for two weeks only!

Period Drama is a surreal, BSL integrated site responsive performance exploring mental health, identity & recovery through autobiographical storytelling, circus & physical theatre. It is a Circus City Respond programme commission and is in the final stages of development after packed performances at Circus City 2021. Breath of Beginning

Spellbinding storytelling, enchanting live music and aerial acrobatics, set in ancient woodlands and wrapped in nature.

‘Breath of Beginning’ was inspired by the work of botanist Diana Berresford-Kroeger and her research into the ‘real magic’ of forests, the way they communicate with each other, boost our immune systems and make breath itself possible. Watch above to catch a glimpse of a truly unique show designed to capture the imagination and bedazzle the senses!
