Circomedia is thrilled to relaunch VOLT, Bristol’s circus scratch night. VOLT returns to offer a vital platform for emerging South West circus artists to try out and develop their work.
Five spectacular South West artists will share their works in progress with us on 31 October.

Brenna Day: The Physics of Spinning
Have you ever wondered what the mathematical description of an aerial flare is? Or how the laws of physics apply to a spinning aerialist? Part science lecture and part aerial performance, The Physics of Spinning is an attempt to explain these ideas – in a more interesting format than raw spreadsheet data.
After a short-lived medical physics career, Brenna decided to pursue their other interests and is now an aerialist and acrobat, specialising in hoop with a focus on musicality and quality of movement. They have a bachelor of science and a diploma in contemporary circus and have recently started to combine the two.
Laura Moy: Untitled piece
Laura trained at Laban as a dance artist before moving into circus, developing a unique style of Chinese Pole at Flic in Italy. She has toured extensively with companies including Firenza Guidi, NTW, Pirates of the Carabina, Upswing and many more, and is currently working on a new outdoor circus show with Imagineer and Orit Azaaz.
Lee Tinnion: The 1/n Life – Subject to Optimism
Halfway to a midlife crisis? Possible. In the middle of a quarter life crisis and he just doesn’t realise it yet? Or some other fractional derivative of life depending on when our alien overlords turn off the simulation? Who knows. A snapshot of a life like a Harry Potter moving portrait on a polaroid scale.
Lee started parkour as a teenager before discovering circus, developing skills in tumbling, acrobalance, counterweighting, aerial wall running, wall trampoline and juggling. He’s toured with NoFit State Circus in productions of Parklife, Barricade, Bianco and Open House. For the past four years he’s been performing Block with NofitState and Motionhouse Dance.
Phoebe Baker: Untitled piece
A celebration of pure unapologetic female strength, performed through the art of flamenco and knife throwing. This piece came from a love of the culture and aesthetic of flamenco dance and the pure passion, pain and joy that can be conveyed through it.
Phoebe started working with the Invisible Circus and Insect Circus as a wire walker. She then went on to set up a successful high wire-walking company, The Bullzini Family. After having a major accident a year ago and making some new life choices, Phoebe is now re-exploring the discipline of knife throwing.
Tilly Hudspith: See Me?
Tilly suffers from perpetual anxiety about her anatomy. Will seems oblivious to his. Do You See Me? attempts to acknowledge and consider views on the body and body image through honest, comic and surreal contemplations on sight, self-image and self-enhancement bias. This piece is developed from Tilly’s final degree performance at Circomedia and is a combination of developed and new material.
Tilly Mae is an acrobat with a passion for alternative comedy and burlesque. She has a degree in Contemporary Circus and Physical Theatre from Circomedia and now tackles professional performance with reckless enthusiasm and extreme terror. Tilly’s acro partner is Circomedia second year degree student, Will Huddy.
